Japan's January domestic cellphone shipments up 7.6 percent
TOKYO (Thomson Financial) - Japan's domestic cellphone shipments rose 7.6 percent to 4.08 million in January from a year earlier, data from the Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association (JEITA) showed Tuesday.
It was the third straight monthly rise.
Excluding personal handyphone system (PHS) phones, shipments rose 6.4 percent to 3.9 million for the third straight monthly increase.
Shipments of PHS phones advanced for the fourth consecutive month, rising 42.6 percent to 172,000.
