Post Tally launches version with 10 Indian language interfaces

TALLY India has launched its latest accounting and inventory management software, 8.1, with 10 Indian language interfaces.

Built-in interfaces in Hindi, Punjabi, Marathi, Gujarati, Oriya, Bengali, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam, have been integrated into the software's latest release.

Now, an administration worker uncomfortable with English could create an invoice in the language of choice, and take a printout in another language, say Kannada, said Mr Bharat Goenka, Managing Director.

The software offers the user a choice of transliteration, which means a common Kannada word typed would appear in another language (say, Hindi) script, on the fly.

"Indians are inherently multi-lingual and a Kannada word in Hindi may be understood by many," said Mr Goenka.

The software also includes a dictionary containing 6,000 words in each language with 95-98 per cent accuracy in replacing a word with the appropriate word in a different language.

Speaking to Business Line, Mr Bharat Gopalakrishnan, CEO (South Asia Business), said that the software would soon include Arabic and even Chinese.

It may be exported over the next few months to companies in West Asia and Asia Pacific regions.

Tally India expects to exceed 150,000-200,000 users of this software by the year-end.

The company is targeting three million SMBs in the country and plans to step up the number of regional sales offices from five to 15 this year. The company is targeting revenue of Rs 250 crore this year, according to Mr Goenka.

Tally has 1.8 million users in 88 countries of which approximately 85 per cent are in India, he added.

The single-user package called TallySilver 8.1 costs Rs 9,000 while the multi-user version, TallyGold 8.1, costs Rs 22,500.
