Numbers tell everything 45 or 67.16% out of 65 voters prefer MT4. All though I use both TS for equates and MT4 for FX I must side with MT4.

Thanks much for all the opinions!

But I would rather like to read something like "Meta Trader 4 offers THIS and Tradestation doesn't". Saying that "I like Meta Trader 4 better beacuse it has got better charts" doesn't express anything. What charts? Indicator displaying? Resizing? Refreshing?

Right now, the only measurable differences are these:
- Meta Trader 4 can do automated trading, Tradestation not (they say in 2006)
- Meta Trader 4 is slightly faster in strategy calculations.
- Meta Trader has awful support compared to Tradestation
- it is hard (or impossible) to find a book about Meta Trader programming and overall strategy testing as opposed to TradeStation
- big dogs use Tradestation (I find references now and there, in the books, on the web, see below). I didn't find any reference of big dog using Meta Trader 4 so far.

I am using Tradestation and althought it's got its pitfalls, it is the best trading strategy development platform right now in my opinion.

Better for whom? It’s like saying a Porsche is better then a Ferrari thay are both top notch it comes done to your preferences. Me, I prefer driving the Ferrari and trading MT4. The number of votes tallied should tell you more here prefer MT4.

OK, why not

I prefer to drive my 330 HP BMW 745i and trade with Tradestation and genetic optimizers, available only for Tradestation

It's not generic but GENETIC. Brokers don't need to support it since genetic optimizing is used when you design and tune the strategy. The primary difference between the exhaustive optimization and the genetic one is the tremendous speed of the genetic optimization.

Every professional trader must first develop and backtest a robust trading system. But I agree that pure trader's needs may be slightly different than those of system developer.

I am a developer and a trader.
